Honeywell's OneWireless Mesh Network
Wireless networks are being implemented in industries to support mobility applications such as laptops, handhelds and other Wi-Fi devices. These Wi-Fi devices are based on the IEEE 802.11 standard which differs from the IEEE 802.3 standard used for Ethernet. Plants also implement wireless networks to support their wireless field instruments. Most wireless field devices use an IEEE 802.15.4 standard-based radio. The field instruments send process data to the control system using a standard such as Zigbee, ISA100, WirelessHART or Bluetooth.
Honeywell’s OneWireless Network is an industrial wireless network that forms a fully redundant and self-healing wireless mesh network to support Wi-Fi devices and industrial I/O devices simultaneously. It is the first ISA100.11a-ready network available.
Honeywell’s OneWireless Mesh Network
The OneWireless Network is a multi-application, multi-standard wireless network that can be tailored to offer wireless coverage needed for industrial applications, from a simple wireless field instrument network to a completely integrated plant wide multi-application wireless network.
OneWireless network can be designed to meet all applications requiring the flexibility and cost offered by wireless technology. It can be configured as a Meshing field instruments network where each ISA100 field instrument can communicate with more than one field instruments. It can also be configured as a wireless mesh network for field instruments and Wi-Fi devices where multi-application access points enable users to build a plant-wide wireless multi-application network.
The OneWireless network can be composed of Wireless Device Manager (WDM), Field Device Access Points (FDAP) and Multinodes. WDM manages all wireless field devices and instrument network devices. It assumes the roles of wireless field instruments’ network gateway, system manager and security manager. Rugged industrial wireless access points, FDAP provides access to ISA100.11a field instruments, whereas multimode provides access to IEEE 802.11 a/b/g clients and ISA100.11a compatible field instruments. They act as bridges between the sensor network and the wireless or wired infrastructure.
Case Study
Honeywell's wireless solution has helped us save approximately 30,000 Euros and we are completely wireless. We no longer have to depend on hard wires and arduous manual tasks to get readings. The solution works entirely trouble-free and we are confident we will continue to see increased cost savings.
